About Karlyn

Several years ago, I was very lucky to meet a lady named Pamela Skyrme. She showed me a different way to exist in the work place than one I had been introduced to before. Through many conversations with her, I became fascinated with the psychology behind the workplace, why people do what they do, and how to create a less stressful environment. That’s why I decided to return to school and pursue my Ph.D. in Psychology, focusing on Industrial/Organizational Psychology.

My current interests surround how individuals use social media in their professional lives, not as part of their job responsibilities, but in regards to networking and building a personal brand. As an offshoot, I’m interested in how employers can promote this activity in a productive way rather than discourage it out of fear and ignorance.

In my day job, I’m the Director of Social Media at Southern New Hampshire University, and an adjunct instructor in the university’s online programs. I’m also a staff writer on .eduGuru, a blog focused on internet marketing and web development in higher education, and an invited speaker on social media and marketing strategy at conferences around the country. You can follow me on Twitter at @KarlynM.

Compulsory disclaimer: The views expressed in my posts are mine and mine alone, and do not represent those of any company I happen to earn a paycheck from. Yes, it’s true – this girl has a mind of her own.

Welcome to SNHU and good luck on the dissertation. Interesting posts here on your site!

Not sure if you are a “stickler” for typing errors but came across this one in this particular post.

In my day job, I work with colleges around the world on web, marketing and brand strategy. I also teaches courses on Internet marketing and strategy at Champlain College as adjunct faculty. For those of you who are interested in such things, I have a Bachelor of Science in Communication from Boston University and a Master of Business Administration from Norwich University.

For whatever reason “teaches” just jumped out.

Please don’t proof any of my stuff as it is a train wreck but thought I’d say hello, welcome and best of luck to you at SNHU.

Welcome to SNHU Karlyn! This is Kibar (kee-bar) from the Undergrad Admission Office! I’ll definitely be getting in touch with you to formally introduce myself and pick your brain. As the (non-self-proclaimed) social media strategist for the UGD office, i’m sure we’ll be crossing paths plenty. I look forward to it!

Best

ps. Leave it to Dr. Lynch to lead by pointing out a spelling error…

Wow, can you tell I haven’t even thought about this blog in a while? Just saw these comments.

Andy, one thing you’ll learn about me (specifically in regards to this website), is that I am an absolute typos queen. I need to go through this site and update many things, so I’m sure this page will be one of the things that gets completely rewritten…the typo you actually reference was from a quick rewrite I did the last time I looked at this site.
